Abstract

This study explores the narrative structure in the short story collection "A Wedding in the Cell" by Saadi Sabah, aiming to uncover the artistic mechanisms that shape its textual fabric. The research focuses on the core structural components: characters, the settings of time and place, and the role of the narrator in directing the narrative flow. It highlights the collection's nature as a sequenced structure; despite the individual titles, the stories interconnect to form a thematic unit fluctuating between confinement and expansion (freedom). The study emphasizes the mastery in the use of language by adopting an intermediate language that bridges standard Arabic and the vernacular, supported by populist language that adds realism to the dialogue, alongside the use of intertextuality to enrich meanings. The study concludes that the author successfully constructed a narrative form where simple language integrates with a human message, transforming the narrowness of space into a realm open to the will to live.
