Abstract

This study investigates the representations of power in Abbasid prison literature utilizing the “rumiyyat” of Abu firas al-Hamadani as an empirical model for analysis. The general problematic of the study revolves around the poet’s capacity to liberate himself from the duress of physical captivity, the estrangement of sayf al-dawla, and the inevitability of fate, and destiny, employing a descriptive-analytical approach. The study concludes that the poet succeeded, to a large extent, in asserting his subjective authority as a counter-force that grew and evolved in tandem with the intensifying pressure and oppression of external authorities. leveraging the authority of discourse. Consequently, the poet’s captivity experience was transformed from a state of forced alienation into a platform for existential affirmation sovereignty and creative expression
