Crataegus monogyna L., a member of the Rosaceae family, is considered one of the most widespread and important medicinal plants. This study aims to conduct a qualitative analysis of the phytochemical compounds present in the roots of this plant and determination of polyphenol content in roots and fruits, as well as to evaluate its antioxidant and antibacterial activities against certain bacterial strains:Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.Phytochemical analysis of the ethanol extract of the roots revealed the presence of coumarins, terpenoids, steroids, and alkaloids, as well as the absence of quinones, phenols, flavonoids, proteins, and saponins. In contrast, the aqueous extract indicates the presence of proteins, coumarins, and terpenoids, as well as alkaloids, with no quinones, phenols, flavonoids, steroids, or saponins. The highest concentration of total polyphenols was observed in the methanolic extract, with a value of 257.01 ± 7.61 μg EAG/mg, followed by the aqueous root extract (107 ± 14.66 μg EAG/mg), then the ethanolic extract (66.82 ± 8.45 μg EAG/mg). Regarding antioxidant activity, as assessed by the DPPH assay, the highest activity was observed for the methanolic extract with an IC50 value of (360.48 μg/ml), compared to the aqueous extract (IC50 = 528.85 μg/ml) and the ethanolic extract (IC50 = 621.96 μg/ml).For the antibacterial activity assessed by the disk diffusion method, all bacterial strains studied were found to be resistant to the root extracts. Meanwhile, the methanolic fruit extract exhibited moderate antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, with inhibition zone diameters of 9.11 mm and 8.82 mm, respectively, and 9.52 mm.en_US
