Description: In the context of the search for new natural sources of bioactive compounds, this study focuses on the phytochemical investigation and biological activity evaluation of Artemisia herba-alba and Ziziphus lotus, two medicinal plants well known for their therapeutic relevance. The selected plant materials were subjected to hydroethanolic extraction followed by solvent fractionation, particularly with ethyl acetate. A qualitative phytochemical screening was performed to identify the main classes of secondary metabolites, while a quantitative analysis was conducted to determine total polyphenols, flavonoids, and flavonols. The results revealed a high richness in phenolic compounds, with the highest content observed in the ethyl acetate fraction (AcOEt) of Artemisia herba-alba (554.88 ± 2.84 μg GAE/mg of extract). The antioxidant activity, assessed using DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and phenanthroline assays, demonstrated significant radical scavenging and reducing potential, particularly for Artemisia herba-alba in the ABTS assay. In addition, biological activities were investigated through anti-inflammatory tests (inhibition of BSA denaturation), antimicrobial assays, and enzymatic tests based on the inhibition of α-amylase and butyrylcholinesterase, in order to evaluate antidiabetic and anticholinesterase potentials, respectively. The results highlighted notable activity, particularly for the ethyl acetate fraction of Ziziphus lotus in the antidiabetic assay, as well as for the hydroethanolic extract (HE) of Artemisia herba-alba in butyrylcholinesterase inhibition. A marked anti-inflammatory activity was also observed for the ethyl acetate fractions of both species. The antimicrobial activity showed effectiveness against several Gram-positive bacterial strains (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus), as well as antifungal activity against Fusarium sp. In conclusion, both species exhibit strong bioactive potential due to their richness in phenolic compounds and associated biological activities, supporting their future pharmacological applications
