| Description: | With the rapid growth of web applications, websites have become frequent targets of various cyberattacks. Traditional security mechanisms remain useful; however, they are not always sufficient to cope with ncreasingly sophisticated threats. This thesis presents the design and development of an AI-based self-defense system for web applications. The main objective is to leverage the capabilities of machine learning, a key branch of AI, to automatically detect malicious requests before they can compromise the security of the application. In this context, several common web attacks are investigated, including SQL Injection, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), and other threats targeting web applications. To train and evaluate the artificial intelligence models, two specialized datasets were used: SRBH-2020 and the CSIC-ECML Combined Dataset. The data underwent several preprocessing, cleaning, and transformation stages to make them suitable for classification algorithms. Several machine learning models, namely CatBoost, LightGBM, and Random Forest, were then implemented and compared in order to identify the most effective solution for attack detection. Finally, the selected model was integrated into a web-based computer hardware sales application to establish an intelligent defence mechanism capable of analyzing HTTP requests in real time and automatically distinguishing legitimate requests from attack attempts. The experimental results demonstrate that the integration of artificial intelligence into web applications can significantly improve threat detection and enhance the overall security of the system. |
