Abstract

"Legal and Administrative Mechanisms for Environmental Protection in the Field of Urban Planning and Development" This study examines the various legal and administrative mechanisms adopted by the Algerian legislator to ensure environmental protection and achieve a sustainable balance between the requirements of urban development and the preservation of the natural environment. The central research problem addresses the extent to which Algerian legislation effectively enshrines environmental protection through urban planning instruments and administrative oversight systems. A descriptive-analytical methodology was employed, drawing on library surveys and documentary analysis of relevant legal and regulatory texts. The study concludes that Algerian environmental policy draws inspiration from international charters, with Law No. 03-10 established as the principal reference framework for environmental legislation. Urban planning and development schemes are identified as key preventive mechanisms for mitigating environmental damage, while building, subdivision, and demolition permits serve as effective regulatory tools for ensuring compliance with environmental standards and advancing sustainable urban development
