L’impact de l’anglicisation sur les pratiques linguistiques des étudiants algériens

Abstract

This research falls within the field of sociolinguistics and focuses on the impact of anglicization on the linguistic practices of Algerian students through the mediatized discourse of the Pathos page. The study aims to analyze the place occupied by English in students’ oral productions as well as the different forms of language contact observed in the corpus. The research is based on an oral corpus composed of several videos published on the Pathos page, where students use Algerian Arabic, French, and English in their interactions. The analysis highlights the presence of several sociolinguistic phenomena, particularly code-switching, borrowing, and linguistic interference. The findings show that English occupies an increasingly important place in students’ discursive practices, especially in academic, scientific, and digital fields. However, this presence remains only partially integrated, as the analyzed productions reveal numerous syntactic and lexical interferences mainly influenced by French and, in some cases, by Algerian Arabic. The study also demonstrates that the use of English is motivated by several communicative, pragmatic, identity-related, and academic factors. Students mobilize their multilingual repertoire flexibly in order to ensure communication and to express representations associated with modernity, knowledge, and international openness.
