| Abstract: | The present research sheds light on extensive reading, which is an approach to reading skill, and academic writing. Taking into account previous studies that were accomplished by experts such as Stephen Krashen, Richard Day and Julian Bamford, extensive reading has a role in developing certain aspects of academic writing such as grammar, structure, vocabulary, coherence, and cohesion. In this regard, the present research aims at investigating whether EFL students of master two at Abdelhafid Boussouf Mila University believe in the relationship between the two variables or not. It, also, seeks to identify the most affected elements of academic writing regarding students believes; furthermore, it examines the texts that are favored by such participants when they practice extensive reading to ameliorate their academic writing proficiency. The research adopts a mixed method; qualitative and quantitative data were gathered through a questionnaire that was distributed for master two students (n= 52). This research topic developed specific questions regarding what master two EFL students at Mila university think about the relation between the two variables, what are the main elements that extensive reading habits help to improve in academic writing proficiency according to the participants, and what are the best reading resources that appeal to students’ perceptions. The work showed a relation between extensive reading habits and academic writing proficiency taking into consideration the analytical evaluation of students’ answers. Moreover, students believe that vocabulary repertoire is the most affected element through extensive reading habits. Finally, it was found that the best reading texts according to master two EFL students are online articles. In conclusion, the present research contributes to explore more about extensive reading habits and academic writing proficiency regarding EFL master two students’ perceptions |
