| Abstract: | Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. However, many learners face difficulties understanding English texts due to limited vocabulary, complex grammatical structures, and unfamiliar expressions. To overcome these challenges, learners often use English–Arabic parallel texts, which present the original text alongside its Arabic translation. This study investigates the impact of using English–Arabic parallel texts on reading comprehension among second-year Licence students at Mila University. A mixed-methods research design was adopted. Data were collected through a questionnaire submitted to 80 students and semi-structured interviews with 10 teachers. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentages, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that most learners perceive parallel texts as helpful for improving reading comprehension. They support vocabulary nderstanding, facilitate the interpretation of difficult ideas, and reduce reading difficulties. Teachers also expressed generally positive attitudes toward their use, while emphasizing the importance of avoiding excessive reliance on translation. The study concludes that English–Arabic parallel texts can be an effective tool for supporting reading comprehension in EFL contexts when used appropriately and in moderation. |
