| Abstract: | Vocabulary development is a central component of learning English as a foreign language (EFL), yet many learners continue to face difficulties in understanding, retaining and appropriately using new words. With the widespread availability of mobile and online dictionaries, learners now rely on digital resources to support vocabulary learning both inside and outside the classroom. This study aims to investigate how third-year EFL students at the University of Abd Elhafid Boussouf, Mila, use mobile and online dictionaries to develop their vocabulary, as well as to identify the challenges they encounter during their learning process, and how can these digital tools can help them in an effective way. Adopting a mixed-methods research design, data were collected through a questionnaire administered to a random sample of 60 third-year EFL learners of Mila University. The findings provide insights into learners’ dictionary-use practices and their role in enhancing vocabulary acquisition, while also highlighting the difficulties that affected their vocabulary learning process |
| Description: | Le développement du vocabulaire est un composant central de l’apprentissage de la langue anglaise comme langue étrangère (EFL). Cependant, beaucoup d’apprenants continuent d’avoir des difficultés dans apprentissage, la mémorisation et l’usage approprié de nouveaux mots. Avec l’expansion et la disponibilité des téléphones portables ainsi que des dictionnaires en ligne (ex. : Google Traduction), les apprenants comptent désormais sur ces ressources pour soutenir l’apprentissage du vocabulaire à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur de la classe. Cette étude vise également à identifier les défis qu’ils rencontrent lors de leurs recherches et à évaluer l’adoption des deux méthodes de recherche à travers un questionnaire distribué à un échantillon de 60 étudiants de troisième année (EFL) de l’Université de Mila. Les résultats attendus donneront un aperçu sur l’acquisition et l’amélioration du vocabulaire grâce à l’utilisation du dictionnaire, ce qui contribuera à améliorer l’efficacité de la compréhension et de l’apprentissage. |
