Abstract

This thesis seeks to study issues of cognitive semantics as they appear in contemporary linguistic writing, drawing on the theoretical foundations developed by Western cognitive linguistics, particularly through the works of George Lakoff, Mark Johnson, and Ray Jackendoff. It attempts to trace ways in which these concepts are adapted within the Arabic cognitive and linguistic environment. The importance of this research lies in its revelation of the ways in which concepts such as mental representation, conceptual imagery, conceptual metaphor, mental imagery, and the construction of contextual meaning are employed in the analysis of Arabic linguistic structures. The research reviews selected examples of contemporary Arabic writings that have adopted the cognitive approach to semantic phenomena, analyzing theoretical discourses and applied practices. It aims to determine the extent of the originality of this approach and its contribution to renewing the view of meaning and developing semantic analysis tools within Arabic linguistics
